THIS was probably the worst Christmas Sandy could remember since losing her father but she had to acknowledge that it was the first one in which she was 'me' and not a 'we' anymore. That took less energy because there were no expectations allowing you to just float through the day not acknowledging the loneliness that came in that box. How many times had she listened to friends moan about the loneliness after a breakup? She thought about the support and love of the best friends who cocooned you until the tears dried up. The friends who assured you that the love of your life was a heel and you would be better off. The friends who came over with a bottle of wine and chocolate while crying with you. They would lie when they said nothing had changed. They would always be there. Always. How very, very wrong she was. Utterly wrong.
