Guzman is in search of “candidates” to possess and convert those who embody “the perfect light". Paul Evans is a preferred target for Guzman/Pearl. Once a considerate and responsible husband and father, he has fashioned his life according to how he believes others perceive him, which exposes him to the influence of corporate greed, destroys the life of his business partner, and damages his own family. Guzman invades and breaks down Paul’s resistance to acknowledging that dark powers have created his success, and now they want Paul’s only son, Matt, in a Faustian exchange.

Matt and his sister, Jenny, possess the resistant strain of “Perfect Light”. Struggling to reclaim shreds of his identity incrementally taken and possessed by Guzman, Paul and his son flee into a mountain wilderness. Deep in the back country, their lives are further threatened in a deadly encounter with Luther Macke, a rancher, and his two sons on a mountain lion hunt. In the midst of a violent winter storm in the remote Rocky Mountains, fathers and sons fight for survival against the forces of darkness whose sole objective is to possess them and extinguish the light wherever and in whomever it may exist. The unfolding evidence and trail of mayhem and murder force Leon to confront his disbelief in paranormal activity as something more than the imagination and projections of a psychopathic killer.

Thought-Provoking Supernatural Killer

Antonio Guzman is a killer with a supernatural alter ego.  As a very deadly and macabre killer, he uses a variety of methods to convince his victims that he is supernaturally possessed by dark forces.  Guzman extracts a price for the successes of people his alter ego identifies.  Faced with solving a variety of vicious crimes, Agent Leon Safullo must catch the killer by using alternate methods outside the norm.

One such victim is Paul Evans who is on the run with his son trying to elude the killer who is demanding the ultimate price for Evans’ success – possession of his son.  Fleeing with his son, Evans finds himself deep in a remote area of the Rocky Mountains during a vicious and deadly winter storm.  Good versus evil, light versus dark in this deadly supernatural thriller that will keep you on the edge of your chair.  

The author, Rob Tucker, takes his time building the story and provides strong character development to support the path the story takes.  Dialog as well as reactions of each character are natural and convincing.  Tucker is a masterful storyteller as he crafts the story vividly.  The death of the evangelist is convincing yet horrifying and sets the beginning of the story perfectly.

The narrator, Scott MacDonald provides a strong performance.  He further moves the story along by providing the perfect amount of emotion and exhilaration at the appropriate places.  His cadence is smooth and effortless.

The production and quality of this audiobook are clear and well done.

Suspenseful

Very engaging right from the start. Good plot line with lots of underlying themes that are thought provoking.
