The Story of Jane Austen

Jane Austen is one of the most popular and earliest women writers in the English language. She was born a year before the American Revolutionary War and lived through rapidly changing times. Her first book was published anonymously in 1811, and despite the turmoil of the period, she created timeless stories that shaped our idea of novels today. They are considered classics that prepare young people for a solid education, and they have become incredibly popular in their own right.
This story is based on Jane Austen’s writings and letters, as well as the writings of family members and friends. Some of the conversations and stories find their source in these artefacts, but some of the sources are transcribed as letters or book quotes with the spelling used by Jane so that readers can experience them as primary sources. Jane’s biography reveals the world that made her the author she became. Many people don’t know that one of the most insightful observers of human nature was brought up in a parsonage and wrote her own prayers for herself and her family. This story brings context to her famous novels.
