A Preternatural Christmas

It’s Christmas time in Hadrian’s Well. In most of the country, it’s a period of peace, relaxation, and the renewal of bonds between friends and family, juxtaposed with an equal measure of stress, anxiety and arguments over who is cooking the turkey and who will bring the cranberry sauce. For Undersheriff Joanna Donovan’s chronically understaffed sheriff’s department, it’s all of that plus a dash of new preternatural hazards. But this year is going to be even tougher than usual. In addition to the typical holiday bustle, Amara, the ex-girlfriend of Joanna’s brother, shows up unannounced to rekindle the romance she destroyed several weeks before. Joanna never liked Amara, but now she’s even worse—a painful reminder of everything she lost when vampires forced her out of Chicago. For Joanna's brother, Declan, his ex represents everything he wanted to leave behind when he came to the southwest to start a new life. But neither of the siblings understands the true danger the woman poses—a threat more cunning and insidious than anything they have yet encountered. Christians believe that Christmas represents the day that Christ came to earth to redeem the souls of mankind, but if Joanna and Declan aren’t exceedingly careful, this Preternatural Christmas will cost them theirs.
