Acerca de esta escucha

The Middle East has long been a region of rival religions, ideologies, nationalisms, and ambitions. All of these conflicts - including the hostilities between Arabs and Israelis and the violent challenges posed by Iraq's competing sects - are rooted in the region's political inheritance: the arrangements, unities, and divisions imposed by the Allies after the First World War.

In A Peace to End All Peace, David Fromkin reveals how and why the Allies drew lines on an empty map that remade the geography and politics of the Middle East. Focusing on the formative years of 1914 to 1922, when all seemed possible, he delivers in this sweeping and magisterial book the definitive account of this defining time, describing how the choices narrowed and the Middle East began along a road that led to the conflicts and confusion that continue to this day.

A new afterword from Fromkin, written for this edition of the book, includes his invaluable, updated assessment of this region of the world today, and on what this history has to teach us.

A great book, good detail and a good picture of WWI beyond Europe. Would recommend

Excellent history

Having spent time in the current tumultuous Middle East, a reading of Peace was instrumental in developing an understanding how the stage was set for the last hundred years of strife and turmoil that frame the current situation. Well researched, well written, and well balanced.

A very important revisiting of the West's haphazard division of the Middle East following the fall of the Ottoman empire. The settlement of 1922 created the national boundaries of the modern Middle East with minimal influence from the people groups who lived there.

Great listen but sometimes gets into a lot of interpersonal related stories that I found harf to follow at times. But learned a lot about the middle east in WWI and the Sikes Picot Agreement.

This is the best book I have ever read or listened to regarding the founding of the modern Middle East. It in clear unbiased terms shows readers why the Middle East is why it is today. Just a great listen on history.

The narrator's supposedly authentic pronunciations of Middle Eastern names like "Sultan Mekhhkhhmet" or "Akhkhkhhkhmed Shah" bothered me greatly especially since it would have taken very little research to know better.

Great book, okay narration
