Contemporary Africa: A Breathtaking Panorama
"A Passage To Africa" by George Alagiah, is extremely well written, read in a kind and beguiling voice, smooth and easy on the ear, is the best Survey of Contemporary Social, Pyschological , Economic and Political Analysis of Africa I know to date.
Breathtakingly candid; busting many myths, the narration exposes ignorance and a deficit of understanding that is part of the "African Experience" in a global world. A resounding question in my family is the question "where exactly in Ghana is Africa?" - a question once posed to a Peace Corps recruiter from Ghana in the United States many years ago.
This charm offensive is candid yet offered with a generosity of spirit. On race,
George Alagiah says white people have to decide if they honestly want to remain African.
Offering fresh perspectives, the African cow is no longer maybe beef, leather or "lobola" . The cow could be a commodity, widget in a futures market, or a collector's item. It takes a different perspective that acknowledges the Nobility of Spirit, industry , and resilience of African peoples.
A must read for anyone who wants to understand contemporary African. A great addition to any library, a stocking stuffer, and a conversation item.
