After stumbling across boxes of his deceased mother and father’s diaries, letters, photographs, and newspaper clippings, the author pieced together a remarkable story. Largely unknown to him at the time, the materials offered glimpses of his parents’ service in the United States Army during World War II. His mother, Angelina Mango, and his father Gustavus Anderson both served in the Pacific Theatre, forged together a war-time marriage. Ms. Mango, a nurse by trade, and his father, an electronic specialist, went about their perilous duties, bonded by longing and long-distance love. Within these pages a proud son re-lives their journey and discovers facets of himself along the way.
