I first met Ron at DEMOFESTx West Coast in 2024, where we struck up a great conversation during the event’s Cocktail Hour, fitting, since he truly is a Friendly Human in Presales. We chatted about our shared backgrounds as Sales Engineers, swapped stories (and probably mentioned 80s music - the best music), and he told me about the book he was working on. I knew right away I had to check it out.
Listening to A Friendly Human in Presales was like getting a master class in what makes this role so rewarding. The ‘7 Timeless Behaviors’ Ron outlines really hit home - I’ve been practicing many of them instinctively, but hearing them named and explained gave me a fresh perspective. It helped me understand why this career has been such a great fit.
Big thanks to Ron for sharing these insights, and to Jack for the engaging narration. Highly recommend this for anyone in (or curious about) the world of Sales Engineering.

As someone who’s spent years in presales, I found the audio version of "A Friendly Human in Presales" to be a refreshing, validating, and hard-to-stop listening experience.

What I appreciated most is that this book doesn’t try to turn presales / sales engineering into a rigid playbook or a checklist of tactics. Instead, Ron Whitson focuses on the human side of the role—the behaviors that actually make the biggest difference when you’re working with customers, sales partners, and different internal teams.

The audiobook format works especially well here. It feels less like being “trained” and more like getting thoughtful advice from a friendly human who’s been there and understands the realities of the role. The narration is clear, conversational, and easy to listen to during long commutes, downtime, or chores around the house!

I’d STRONGLY recommend this to anyone new to presales / sales engineering, as well as experienced SEs, who want a reminder that being technically strong is important, but being a friendly, trustworthy human is what really sets you apart from the crowd.
