More self-reflection than exposé, but not bad

The reviews on the Amazon sites alerted me to the idea that this would be more of a personal memoir than the story of a war atrocity, but I ventured forth anyway. The author presents several psychological points of view of war, occupation and dislocation, almost is if he's the first to have discovered them. In any case, it seems as if he's trying to formulate a unified theory of psychological trauma, bridging the three ideas of survivor's guilt, the systemic architecture of evils, great and small a society promotes, and the culpability of the disinterested bystander. There may be a tenuous equivalence in those, and the book does get a bit long-winded at some times, but not altogether uninteresting.
