Enos Dean Gunther III has spent his life in the mountains of Cove Creek, as have generations of Gunthers before him. Like many uplanders, Dean keeps to himself. An easy choice, since most of his time is spent trying to sober up his father. Then Heidi Coleman crashes a truck, practically on his doorstep. The cute redhead he knew from school has grown to be quite the beauty. Dean is shocked she’s so far from town and knocking on his door. Everyone in Cove Creek knows the Gunthers do not welcome outsiders.Of all the areas to skid off the road after hitting a deer, God has allowed it to be right next to the Gunther property. Heidi knows the stories of the Gunther family; most recently, those about the drunkard father and his wild man of a son, Dean. Once a childhood friend, Dean is referred to now by most townsfolk as Edge. The truck is stuck in a snowbank, there’s no cell service and not another person in sight. The deer she grazed is down, bleeding, and needs help. When Heidi sees the smoke rising above the treetops, she sets off in that direction, assuring the animal she will return. Little does she know her trek will land her in a whole heap of trouble.The town bad-boy and the church-going-good-girl will soon be hip-deep in danger, snow, and each other’s lives. To win the day, each must rely on the other. Especially when, against all odds, love comes calling.
