Earlier on the red letter day, the people of this nation had defied the rains, hissed at the heat of the sun and queued up in historical numbers to vote. Now it was night and as midnight approached, sleep was pushed to the borders of the nation by the hands of patriotism and banned from re-entry by desire. The sockets of human eyes ran towards the edges as the souls of men yearned for a new day; their hearts within their bodies longed for change and their spirits groaned from the pains of ill governance. Now the voting was complete and the results were set to be announced at midnight – the country was wide awake!
