Lieutenant Travis Long of the Royal Manticoran Navy is the sort of person who likes an orderly universe. One where people follow the rules. Unfortunately he lives in the real universe. At the moment,there are powerful forces in the young Star Kingdom of Manticore's Parliament that don't think they need him. For that matter they're pretty sure they don't need the Royal Manticoran Navy, either. After all, what does a sleepy little single-system star nation on the outer edge of the explored galaxy need with a navy? Unhappily for them, the edge of the explored galaxy can be a far more dangerous place than they think it is. They're about to find out why they need the navy...and how very, very fortunate they are that Travis Long is in it.

Last 5 hours pure action

Overall very well done. I couldn't stop listening to the last part and stayed up too late. I could do with less of the political bickering, and of Long's misattribution of motives to others. And while the final battle was exciting, after the first engagement I couldn't figure out the situation. It seemed like they were just going from confrontation to confrontation without a consistent overview of the tactical situation.

I am really enjoying this series on the founding in the Manticoran navy. Looking forward to the next book

So, my review for the last book was meant for a different series, and Audible does not allow me to correct that :(

So, I would like to correct that in this review.

This series is different from other Weber books I've read (mainly with Steve White) where the focus is mainly on one character and not the universe. I wasn't expecting that, but it was done well.

Action & Intrigue

Great narrator and excellent mix of political and military action. Some hard lessons in indirect lining your pockets to the harm of King and Country.

Travistea Long strikes again and gets snubbed

More of the same but now he's an officer with a love interest. Still a stickler for the rules but still thinking outside the box.
