Tutto inizia con un cellulare spento. A telefonare è Ester, a non rispondere è Giulio, finito in ospedale a causa di un brutto tamponamento sulla via Aurelia. A riaccendere il telefonino, invece, è Giuditta, la moglie di Giulio, che ovviamente di Ester non sa nulla. Potrebbe essere l'inizio di una commedia rosa, ma il colore di questa storia è decisamente un altro: un testimone, infatti, sostiene che quello di Giulio non sia stato un incidente, ma un tentato omicidio, e la pratica passa dagli uffici dell'assicurazione a quelli del commissariato.

One of the better ones
This 19th book in the Montalbano series starts with a dream and ends with lots of emotion. In fact, the ending redeemed the entire book for me.
Salvo and Livia’s long-time long-distance romance is stale and they spend a good part of their phone calls arguing. What will happen to them? In the meantime, Salvo becomes infatuated with Marian, an art dealer.
All this time the detectives have more than one case to work out.
A good story and, as usual, a great narration.

Excellence!
law-enforcement, relationships, Sicily, mystery, audiobook ----------
Three policing plots and two relationship plots make this a truly complicated tale. A rather suspicious theft/assault, an interesting woman art dealer with strange connections, and an evident munitions storage in a remote field make for some interesting policing and interdepartmental shenanigans. The interesting woman triggers some inner conflicts for Montalbano while Livia is experiencing an unexplained bout of depression. And, as always, there is Catarella!
More excellent writing from the master with impressive translation by Stephen Sartarelli and narrative interpretation by Grover Gardner.
