Resumen del Editor

New York homicide detectives pursue a serial killer in this apocalyptic thriller.

When detectives James Manning and Covina "Dewey" Duwai are called in to investigate a series of bizarre murders, they make a shocking discovery: the legend of the hidden righteous ones, the 36 who preserve the world from destruction, is no legend at all. They are real, and they are being murdered.

As the bodies pile up and the world tilts into chaos, Manning and Dewey must protect the righteous ones from a ruthless killer able to beguile his victims and command them against their will. The detectives find their traditional arsenal of bullets and blades of little use against a foe who seems to anticipate their every move.

Joining forces with a disgraced but brilliant rabbinical scholar and a renowned anthropologist - who's also the last of the righteous ones - Manning and Dewey set off on a perilous quest from New York to Gehenna to defeat a murderer who won't stop until he's killed everyone.

Not his best work but a good listen

I feel like the voice actor was stiff and let a reasonably well written story fall short of it’s potential.

An example of a carefully constructed and well-detailed story

I enjoy the fact that this book was narrated by, the main female character in the book. The fact that the book reaches into Kabbalah, and does so in a way that isn’t so detailed that it confuses, or turns people off, made this book all the more credible. I was familiar with the story of the 36 righteous men before picking up Steven Pressfield’s treatment. His rendering of the story in a way that didn’t have anything to do with Judaism or an understanding of it made it appealing to anyone. He made it universal, he made it engaging, he made it believable, and he made it frightening. I love Pressfield’s writing, having discovered it while an officer in the USMC. He writes for warriors, and even though this book doesn’t seem like it, this book is for warriors also—because all of us are warriors, in the sense in which this book construed the world and our common future. An excellent listen, one that I will return to after I have a chance to listen to a few dozen different books, and to make this story new again.

Altered Carbon meets Davinci Code.

Awesom near-future mystery with future and history well combined.
The narrator does a good job, once you realize the character is a cop and a Marine.

meh... its devil vs God fairytale

so. . I actually thought it was a cool crime thriller until I realized that the bad guy was "the Terninator"...? not even... the Devil. well Ha Satan, who by the way, although as adversary, actually only acts upon God's will according to Judaism. and where are Presfield's usual glorious battles and heroic warriors. ugh.. this story is stupid... like that movie with Schwarzenegger, the end of days. At least Mia is a great narrator.

Even the best men make mistakes

I have been a fan of Stephen Pressfield's writing for 20 years or more, and he is one of my very favorite authors, but this piece was an absolute disappointment. Climate alarmist propaganda VERY thinly veiled beneath an amateurish supernatural detective story attempting to channel Dan Brown. I do not reccomend.
