Sometimes there's a town called Indianola. And sometimes there isn't.

June, 1993. Claire has been dumped in rural Indianola, Texas, to spend her whole vacation taking care of mean, sickly Grammy. There's nothing too remarkable about Indianola: It's run-down, shabby, and sweltering, a pindot on the Gulf Coast.

Except there is something remarkable. Memories shimmer and change. Lizards whisper riddles under the pecan trees. People disappear as if they never existed. Yesterday keeps coming unspooled, like a video tape. And worst of all, a red-lightning storm from beyond our world may just wipe the whole town off the map if Claire and her maybe-girlfriend Julie can't stop it.

Because reality doesn't apply in Indianola. Indianola is not supposed to exist.

The dramatization was nice

Finally. It’s been a while since I could actually listen to an audiobook. I’ve had a dry spell. But this book was good.

So good

I honestly loved it I can’t stop talking about the dramatization of it and the full cast was great

Produced like a radio play, with full cast narration, sound effects, and music. The production and narration are fantastic!
The story is unique. Well written. I didn’t know quite what I was in for when I started, but it grabbed me and held my attention through the last line.
For fans of sci-fi, YA, coming of age, or mystery, with a touch of sweet sapphic romance. A little bit of something deeper woven between the lines of the story. Really well crafted.
I also enjoyed the Texas/Houston Easter eggs thrown in.
A five star listen.

Not what I expected, but really good.

Didn't know what to expect, but was pleasantly surprised. Great story. Great narration. Was driving through some wind and rain which made the ending really come to life. Will definitely check out some of this author's other books. Probably will listen to this one again.

Man this was a great book! The production of it was brilliant and the execution of the cast is truly one of the best!

Best Book I've Listened to Recently

I got this book for pride month, and went in more or less blind. The story is so good that I might buy a physical copy of the book for my library. The dramatized audiobook is extremely well done, the full cast does an excellent job, and the background sound design was done really well and actually adds to the story.

So, so bad.

This audiobook was awful. I'm mad at myself for even finishing it, but I wanted to give it the benefit of the doubt.
It "reads" like it was penned by a 13 year old. It jumps around and switches gears so much that I need a neck brace for the whiplash. I found the style of stage notes narration almost condescending. The entire style of writing was like stage notes, devoid of any real emotion.
The characters were very one-dimensional and uninteresting. I felt nothing for any of them. The acting was terrible. I rolled my eyes multiple times throughout the audiobook, at ridiculous or cliché lines.
Wasted hours of my life. Ugh
