Wonderfully weird

Simultaneously executes being silly and serious in a perfectly ridiculous manner, as only Lemony Snicket can do. My kids delight in this as a bedtime story, and chuckle every time the owner of the haberdashery greets the dog.

Inspired neoclassicism

Hooray!
This 11 min. audio book has lovely rhythm and texture. The choice of vocabulary is played with in a highly disciplined manner. It is like listening to Satie, Poulenc, Milhaud.
I am confident that the Kalman illustrations are a treat, but I will introduce my grandchildren to this Snicket as an audio book first. Let their own imaginations flesh it out initially.

Nico Muhly wrote this charming song, and the mezzo soprano singing is Eve Gigliotti, who sings in opera houses across the country including The Metropolitan Opera! What a treat to hear this song with this story. Thank you!
