This 12 Step Workbook is designed to help you with your recovery journey. It's meant to be a supplement to working the 12 Steps of recovery with a sponsor.

Each chapter deals with each step. For example: Step One "We admitted we were powerless over our addiction, that our lives had become unmanageable."

After discussing the step, you are asked to answer questions by writing them in the workbook.

Here is just a small sample of questions you will be asked to write down answers to in the first 50 pages:

  • What does "the disease of addiction" mean to me?

  • Has my disease been active in me recently? Yes or No? If yes, in what way?

  • What is it like when I'm obsessed with something? Does my thinking follow a pattern? Describe:

  • When a thought occurs to me, do I immediately act on it without considering the consequences? In what other ways do I behave compulsively? Describe:

  • How does the self-centered part of my disease affect my life and the lives of those around me?

  • How has my disease affected me physically?

  • Mentally?

  • Spiritually?

  • Emotionally?

  • What is the specific way in which my addiction has been manifesting itself most recently?

  • Have I been obsessed with a person, place or thing? If so, how has that gotten in the way of my relationships with others?

  • How else have I been affected mentally, physically, spiritually, and emotionally by this obsession?

For Step One, there are nearly 100 questions for you to consider, and write about.

You will have to do a lot of “work” in this workbook.

Members of Twelve Step programs often use the phrase "working the program," just what that means is a little bit unclear. Each fellowship has its own definition. But some common elements exist that transcend the various fellowship.

Going to Twelve Step meetings is the basic building blocks of recovery. Usually, a recovering person will attend two or three meetings a week, or more. Becoming involved with meetings provides a solid foundation for recovery. Sharing in meetings, having a service commitment and taking a group leadership position are good ways for members to be involved in the process.

Much of working the program, however, goes on outside the meetings. Most recovering people learn about the program from applying program principles to their real-life problems. Take your time completing this workbook and refer to it often as you "trudge the road to happy destiny."
