First, the men and women of S3 (Shield, Safeguard, and Shelter) get thrown into the politics of the Washington, D.C. chopping block. And almost overnight, S3 is cut down to the bare bones.

Then, still reeling from this nearly fatal blow, the downsized version of S3 is sent on a desperate mission to Ukraine.

A secret backpack nuke has been stolen from Ukraine by the Russians, and the Russians plan to use it in the heart of Europe, taking out Berlin and blaming Ukraine in the process.

The United States needs to recapture the weapon, but it is in Russian-occupied territory. America will need plausible deniability if they are to send forces into the eastern region of Donbas, so that means no American troops can be sent.

The typical answer to such a situation would be to call upon the shadowy forces of the CIA. And that is precisely what Washington attempted. But the CIA has already failed in two separate attempts (each, a more desperate attempt than the last) — the Russian intelligence and control of the area is that good.

Now the clock is ticking, and there are mere days before the Russians move the weapon and cut off the head of NATO.

Can the skeleton crew of S3 find and recapture the weapon, using only the reckless courage of Nick Woods and the formidable brains of Allen Green? And are they prepared to take out the Russian force of nature known as Luka?
