Rochelle Erhardt’s goal is to make it from L.A. to North Carolina by car before Christmas. With a new haircut, fresh wheels, and large sunglasses, she is confident no one will recognize her.

Until those “fresh wheels” break down in northwest Arkansas. Suspecting that she is being followed by the one person who can ruin her reputation further than it already has been, a delay is the last thing she wants.

But when her rescuer, a handyman from Iowa named Charlie, stops to help, he doesn’t appear to recognize her at all. Though the fact brings her secret relief, what the local mechanic tells her does not.

It may be over a week before he can repair her car.

She has no choice but to stick around, and ends up renting the cabin next door to Charlie’s. It wouldn’t have been Charlie’s first choice, or second, or last… except for the internal nudge he feels from God to help the stranded woman as much as he can.

But when they develop a friendship, then something beyond that, the nudge becomes too much to bear when Rochelle flies into a panic one evening and refuses to tell him what’s wrong. More, she decides she would be better off never to see him again.

But Charlie is a praying man, and his plans to leave her behind fall when he finally figures out her secret. He turns around to head back to the resort, and just in time.

Because Rochelle was right to have harbored suspicions about the woman who possibly destroyed her career…
