Chelsea Rivers is a troubled teen who is abused by her father and ridiculed by her classmates. She is put in therapy as a means to sooth the conscience of her parents, but soon discovers that her therapist is not your average therapist. Dr. Bennett has an alternative method in her approach to therapy and soon has Chelsea plotting the murder of the "cool kids" who torment her as a cathartic exercise.
Chelsea begins secretly following her tormentors to learn their habits and schedules. While doing so, she happens upon one of them murdering their family dog and an unlikely friendship ensues that gets Chelsea 'in' with the in-crowd. As Chelsea learns more about each of her former tormentors, she begins to identify with each of them and develops a change of heart. She decides that she no longer wants to murder them, she wants to assist them. As the group friendship deepens, they begin to plan something BIG together.
This serial killer murder book is darkly intriguing with a surprise twist of events.
At the heart of this novel is a deeply unsettling concept: what if even those deemed incapable of empathy—sociopaths and psychopaths—form connections not out of manipulation, but out of something resembling loyalty, even love? Graff tackles this premise without flinching, crafting characters whose moral compass is shattered yet magnetic. Their relationships are driven by obligation, shared darkness, and a kind of twisted responsibility that makes them oddly, disturbingly... human.
The psychological depth in *The Voltarist* is staggering. It's a study in extremes—where violence and vulnerability coexist, and horror is tethered to emotional truth. Graff doesn’t just escalate the tension; they evolve it, layering each page with ethical ambiguity and psychological nuance that leaves you questioning your own perceptions long after the book is closed.
This isn’t just the next step in the series—it’s a revelation. And if this is where Book Three takes us, the finale promises to be unforgettable.
