The three short months separating high school and college are probably a traumatic period for practically everyone. For me, this was the summer of 1963—which proved to be an emotional roller coaster ride, taking me at times to the giddy heights of wild reckless abandon, and at other moments plunged me to the depths of despair and untold anguish.Suddenly faced with the unsettling prospects of entering college in the fall I was plagued with uncertainty about where I was really headed in life. I had serious misgivings about whether I could actually cut it at college, which caused my already somewhat explosive, wild, and reckless tendencies to grow exponentially. I often over reacted to the slightest problems and continually rebounded from one self-generated crisis to another. In short, I was experiencing the same problems that plagued most other eighteen year olds.
