David Bret is an Anglo-French biographer, novelist, medieval historian and broadcaster, with over fifty published titles to his credit and over 600 radio and television appearances. This collection represents poems penned by him over a 50-year period. Now much-revised in that he explains who or what they about, they tell of his frequently complicated and controversial private life—his loves, platonic and otherwise, and his lifelong involvement with the entertainments industry. During a lengthy career, Bret has been involved with the French chanson, in print and on the stage. He has written about Portuguese fado, pop and rock, theatre, opera, royalty, British and European comedians, Hollywood movie icons and matinee idols, drag artistes, porn stars, and even a serial killer.
This volume contains over fifty poems, a eulogy composed for Bret’s late godmother—the French singer and actress, Jacqueline Danno—and many photographs from his extensive private collection.
A second volume of poems is currently being edited.
