Jim and Nora Li settled in the wilderness of the North Fork of Montana's Flathead River in the late 19th century. They established a home there, rearing their mixed blood foster daughter as well as Nora's son. In1906 Nora filed under the Homestead Act and gained title to Evening Star Ranch. The family met challenges of WWI and the Great Flu Pandemic but prospered during the thirties by hiring on as labor on Going to The Sun highway through Glacier National Park.
The United States joined the war against Germany and Japan after Japan bombed Pearl Harbor. Husbands, sons, and sweethearts were called away from home to fight. The Evening Star family scattered across the world, contributing each one as they could to save democracy, joining those who grieved the deaths, damage and disappearance of loved ones.
Follow this family of the Greatest Generation in the struggles of World War II, and in their determination to preserve their beloved post war North Fork wilderness and its surroundings from those who would destroy it for profit.
Read and remember.
Karen Wills lives with her husband a few miles from her beloved Glacier National Park in Northwest Montana.
