Anna Martin has never lived her life in accordance with what others might think. Now, hiding behind the trunk of a tree, she's beginning to truly regret that fact. Listening to her reputation being ripped apart is making her suspect that her Ma's warnings are most likely coming true. After all, what man would ever consider courting - let alone wedding - a woman who never stops to consider what consequences her actions might have?
Richard Andrews has just returned to Crooked Creek after being gone for three years. The day he'd left, he'd heard Anna screeching that she hated being a girl. He'd also seen her spirit as her Pa had picked her up, turned her across his knee and given her a spanking. Richard has secretly loved Anna for years, and has returned to claim the feisty little copper-haired girl who has grown into a beautiful woman.
He loves her spirit and her determination, and knows both will serve her well. Without her by his side, the dream he is working so hard to fulfill would be worthless. He wants the angel he knows she is - as well as the wanton lover he can detect in her flashing eyes. By the time they reached a marriage agreement, she'd know that she was loved and could always count on him to keep her in line - even if that means turning his passionate pioneer over his knee on a regular basis. Now all he has to do is convince her to trust him; convince her to become his wife.
Can Anna push aside her pride and actually turn to another for help? She remembers Mr. Andrews very well from when she was just 15 years old. She'd been devastated when he'd simply ridden away that day. Why was he back, and what did he mean when he asked her to trust him? All she really knew was that, the moment he took her hand, her heart was lost.

This is one of those books you really like or really dislike. So where to start….If you like spankings and some other *ss play this is your book. Overall the story was entertaining. I enjoy westerns, erotica, historical and romance. All of those together should have been a 5 star listen. Unfortunately, this book just wasn't my cup of tea. Is a book I will listen to again? No.Was spanking common back in the mid 1800's? Most likely. Was it a time when men expected to be listened to? Yes. Even if it was, this story would have been much more enjoyable if the spankings had been fewer. This was basically a Dom/Submissive story in a historical setting.
The story started out really good then took a backseat to the spankings. The book summery states "even if that means turning his passionate pioneer over his knee on a regular basis". That statement and what actually happens in the story are completely different things. He uses his hand, a paddle, a strap and a switch and it's not just spankings.
Anna is young and spirited. Yes, she does act like a child at times. But how would you act if your husband treated you like a child all the time? Richard her new husband belittles her, degrades her, treats her like a child, talks to her like a child and chastises her like a child. Really this is how you are going to treat the woman you just married? Then you expect her to act like an adult.
Logan McAllister did a really good job with the narration. Nice voice. Clearly spoken with a smooth even pace. Good character voices. His narration kept me listening. He brought the characters and the story to life. His narration of the story was very enjoyable.
I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator or publisher.

Anna and Richard

Richard and Anna were wonderfully written multi-dimensional characters and I enjoyed the romance that the author weaved.
The only thing that caused me to give a four star rating was the fact that there was some inconsistency in Richard's personality as far as punishments went. Now, I take it as a sign of a great author to bring about emotions in their readers and Maggie definitely did this--kudos! Example of one particular inconsistency: I was quite upset and stirred up when Richard - upset about his wife taking unnecessary risk to her safety by swimming naked (as she might be raped by an unscrupulous man lacking self control), decides to punish her, but then he forces her to stand naked and ALONE even more exposed and at risk on the river bank while he goes off to tell the others she's been found. He exposes her to the exact danger he intended to punish her for, which was inconsistent of his strong need to keep her safe and protected throughout the book. Things like this show the author truly had me invested in the story and character outcomes so I must say overall this is a wonderful listen! I thoroughly enjoyed it (even the moments that made me uncomfortable and squirmy) and would highly recommend it!

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
Yes, unless a book is just truly awful time is never wasted when listening. Was His Passionate Pioneer worth the listening time?
I was pretty well hooked in the beginning. It moves a lot faster than expected so I think the blurb about the book really should be tweaked a bit as almost all of what is written happens in the first few chapters and really should incorporate more of the story.Any additional comments?
I received a copy of this audio book for free in exchange for an honest review. I enjoyed the book. It wasn't my favorite by far and I got a little frustrated with Anna constantly talking about "what everyone else would think". However the book overall was a fun listen. If there is a second book I would consider purchasing it.Overall Pretty Good
