LOVED THIS ONE

Absolutely Loved this audiobook. Darcy Stark gives soooo much life to a story. The characters leap into your mind and blood with Darcy narrating.

Joan Durbin has enjoyed life as a widow, out from under the control of her overbearing, at times abusive, husband. She’s taken a string of lovers, but the pampered dandies of the London aristocracy have left her wanting, so when she hears of an agency of male courtesans, she decides to investigate. Upon meeting Sir Piers Lovelace, Joan’s desire for a dominant lover is finally satisfied.

Unlike most of his fellow courtesans, Piers has no need of the money he stands to earn, he simply enjoys the opportunity his position affords him to have affairs without any expectations of permanency. He’s had his heart broken before and has no interest in revisiting the pain.

But it doesn’t take long for Piers to realize that Joan is not like any other woman he’s ever met, and it becomes increasingly difficult for him to keep their arrangement simply pleasure without involving his heart.

It took a little bit for me to really get invested in this story, but Darcy Stark’s excellent narration helped to draw me in. At first, I was a bit annoyed by Joan’s bratty behavior, but at the same time I also identified with her rebellious streak, and I think that is what made her such a good match for Piers and him for her. They each challenged each other in ways that were recognizable as new and scary but also special and I think a lot of us read romance to remember that feeling of first meeting someone and realizing they’re different. At least I do, so I really enjoyed that here. Besides all that, the chemistry and steam here was off the charts and these two did a pretty good job of communicating, despite insecurities and a few false starts. I really enjoyed this story and I look forward to the rest of the series.

Just Fabulous!

Piers wasn't quite sure what quite sure what hit him when Joan came into his life. She was totally not what he expected and I simply loved both of these characters.
This is a wonderful story which I couldn't put down.
Oh the angst and the games and the heat ... Just fabulous!
Darcy Stark was a pleasure to listen to, as usual. I love his voices and his voice acting is superb. He just complimented a fabulous story!

Fast, Fiery & Fun

I thoroughly enjoyed this wonderful romance. Joan and Piers were easy to like and I quickly felt invested in them. I thought they were both very believable and I felt that their chemistry was electric. The story is smartly crafted and captured and maintained my interest well. This book was fast, fiery, fun and I loved that it didn't skimp on the feels! I found the narrators voice pleasant and I thought their performance was very engaging and entertaining.

Sensual & provocative!

As always Mistress Vale writes a story which is sensual, brilliant, romantic and utterly provocative! I loved the way Joan and Pierce was towards each other and the drama their relationship/keeper/courtesan-relationship worked! I was laughing one minute, stifling a moan the next and oh it was just perfect! Their evolution as characters was also very well done! They grew and changed and it was great to see/hear them do it throughout the story.

I recommend a fan, a cold shower or a man/partner close by once you finish this book! You’ll need it 😉

His Brazen Tart

This is a great book just long enough for a day snuggled up in a blanket this winter.

Widow Joan Durbin was married to a man who didn’t appreciate her and treated her bad and she has decided to have fun and to not let her dead husband to ruin what is left of her life. Joan decides to hire one of the Gentleman Courtesans to help her explore her desires.

Sir Piers Lovelace, is dominate who thought he was in love once before only to find out the woman was using him for entertainment. he joins the Gentleman Courtesans for the joy of it not because he needs the money.

Joan hires Piers and things really start to heat up.

I would recommend this book to anyone who likes their historical romance with a bit of erotic romance.

Can't Wait For the Other Books in this Series

There is no other author of erotic Regency historical fiction and narrator who can deliver quite the level of titilating excitement and intensity as VV and DS. Not the usual boring fare, the characters and story arc will take you where few dare to tread.

Very entertaining

This was an very entertaining story with engaging characters. Both Piers and Joan had devastating experiences in the past. Now, Joan had been a widow for a number of years and she was attempting something new, she had certain specifations. Sir Piers Lovelace was just the man to accommodate her requirements. Could anything deeper come from this relationship and would they be able to trust each other to say how they felt? I just loved the ending! I did enjoy this book when I first read it but I enjoyed it even more as an audiobook. Darcy Stark’s narration really brought the characters to life and his voice was easy to listen to.

Erotic is an understatement

Darcy Stark is a fabulous narrator. The story was good. The ending predictable, but still good.
