I’m not sure what I just read, or where it’s rightful place among books lies. I almost stopped in the first third, but somehow I came to like her, even among some descriptions she uses that made me cringe. I’ve learned that it takes all kind to make a world, and after reading so many memoirs and learning of so many things people do and experience, nothing surprises me. In the end, I rated it so highly for both her writing technique and her courage to tell such a story. I first thought I’d wandered into the back room of the video store by mistake. My first response was WTF? You’ll just have to decide for yourself.

Oriana Small aka Ashley Blue did a great job writing and reading her work for us. I really enjoyed this and appreciate the frank, direct way she tells her stories. I have always found the adult industry interesting and I'm sure I'd work in the field if I lived in that area. I really enjoyed the pacing, the thoroughness of Oriana Small's stories and the intelligent way this woman's life is portrayed. She's amazing, this book was amazing. I loved it and recommend it highly to people who like learning about the behind-the-scenes aspect of the adult film industry. I hope she continues to write because she is clearly great at it.

I was around the industry during Ashley’s time in the adult industry. Her Girlvert persona immediately captured my imagination and her work still stands out during a time when porn was produced mostly to the lowest common denominator. Ashley’s work really was performance art if you cared to take the time to see it.

I put off reading this book for so long because I was worried it would be one of those regret-porn memoirs that would make me feel dirty about celebrating her work. However Ashley/Oriana lays bare all the good and bad. She made mistakes, she made art. She was manipulated and she manipulated others. Its pretty refreshing to hear her expose her own faults and not just those of people in her life.

There are parts of this book that made me feel bad for Ashley. Then other parts that made me disappointed in Ashley. And still parts that are absolutely hilarious. Its a great read/listen and really unlike anything you’ve probably ever read before.

First off, this review is from August 2025 (shame on you Audible for getting rid of dates on reviews). LOVE THIS BOOK!! This will be the FIRST time I am giving an Audible book a 4.5 ⭐ Rating (I have yet to give a full 5 yet). I have now read this book by 'Ashley Blue' and both books by Asa Akira which I highly recommend! All 3 books, but especially this one have really opened my eyes and opinions on the porn industry as a whole. They have taught me so much about everything porn.. how it's really made, what actresses go through and are treated like, how much they make, the drugs, the STDs, the unwanted pregnancy, the emotional baggage, the atmosphere of the whole thing, the locations, the cost later in life, just everything about everything porn. Truly eye opening. Wonderfully written. Told by her in her voice in raw form, she does not hold back.

Ori, if you ever read this, I am a 43 year old male and have seen your work but knew nothing about you or your career before reading your book. When I was younger, I watched a lot of porn, and did not realize what all went in to making a porn movie or scene, and now I have a ton more respect and admiration for you and all adult performers in the industry now that I know how things work and operate a little better. All so millions of guys and girls like me can 'get off' to a girl like you. It is art, you are right about that! The government doesn't know anything and they are just trying to take things away from us little by little and it's getting worse! That's true with a lot of things like marijuana, but we won't go into that today.

Anyway, you are a true inspiration. Your story, it's worth being told! We all eff up and do stupid sh!t from time to time. What's important is that we get back up and keep on trucking and learn from our mistakes. I am so sorry when I heard you tell the story of Protrusion almost killing you by choking you to death. That was hard to hear. That guy seems like he needs some help.

I would definitely recommend this book to anyone that is looking for something different. It doesn't matter if you like porn, don't like porn, could care less about porn. It is an explicit book and it does describe sex scenes in detail, so if that's not your jive, don't get the book. But I promise if you listen to this book, you will learn something about yourself and about other people too. It's not erotica or smut, it's a story about a young girl that had a tough life growing up, that got into the porn scene when she became an adult expecting it to last just a year. 6 years later, it became something else entirely. But in the end, it changed this person's life forever and she has porn to thank for it.

I liked the book a lot. I dont usually read stuff like this because they tend to turn to jokes like Jenna Jameson's autobiography. I never read that yet it made itself into an episode of House MD. This is honestly written and hoestly read. Well, as honest as it could be I guess. I think if it were to be made into a TV series or streaming series or a movie, it would be well recieved. This memoir is a shitshow but an honest shitshow. Last time I felt what I'm feeling right now, I had just finished watching Blow starring Johnny Depp.

I read this book a few years back and really enjoyed it so I wondered if the audio version would still be interesting. Typically I dislike books narrated by the authors. Bios especially. This one started out a little rough but after a but I could get into it. The story is crazy. A little sad. A lot she brings on herself via her own actions or plain naivete. Still, a very entertaining and intriguing story of a woman with insane experiences to share! Highly recommended.
