I'm not great
with things that go bump in the night. I had a night light beyond the age for which it’s appropriate to have a night light, and as a rule of thumb I avoid all things Stephen King (with the one exception of 11-22-63 because IMO that’s really just a tragic love story 🙂).But every Halloween season I pull on my big girl pants and lean in to the spooky. Even as a kid, I’d tune in to Are You Afraid of the Dark? for the month, and whip out my Goosebumps paperbacks. Luckily for R.L. Stine fans new and old, he has a fun and frightful Audible Original out this month to get you in the spirit. More on that, below.
Happy haunting,

Spooky, nostalgic fun from the creator of Goosebumps
Sleepaway camp promises memories that last a lifetime. But the memories from Camp Red Moon might give you nightmares! For this spooky new collection, scare master R.L. Stine handpicked some of the most exciting names in kid and young adult lit to tell a new batch of creepy campfire tales. In tales conceived by Stine, horror camp counselors Dan Poblocki, Ellen Oh, and Justin Reynolds spin stories of strange creatures, haunted cabins, and full moons. Light a fire—or just a candle—and let the chills begin! And bonus: it's one of this month's free Audible Original titles—members can pick two, no credit needed. For ages 10 and up.

Historia
From the moment she first learned to read, literary genius Darcy Wells has spent most of her time living in the worlds of her books. There, she can avoid the crushing reality of her mother’s hoarding and pretend her life is simply ordinary. But when a new property manager becomes more active in the upkeep of their apartment complex, the only home Darcy has ever known outside of her books suddenly hangs in the balance.

I've been waiting for this one!
I saw this cover months ago, and wanted to listen before I even knew what it was about. Luckily for me it turned out to be a book about books! And like most people in this profession, I’m a sucker for those stories. Laura Taylor Namey’s debut novel checks so many of my boxes: there’s literary escapism, complicated personal lives, and even a meet-cute in a bookstore. Brittany Pressley, one of my favorite YA narrators, performs, and I can’t wait to listen now that it’s finally here.

Caleb Michaels is a 16-year-old champion running back. Other than that his life is pretty normal. But when Caleb starts experiencing mood swings that are out of the ordinary for even a teenager, his life moves beyond "typical". Caleb is an Atypical, an individual with enhanced abilities. Which sounds pretty cool except Caleb's ability is extreme empathy - he feels the emotions of everyone around him. Being an empath in high school would be hard enough, but Caleb's life becomes even more complicated when he keeps getting pulled into the emotional orbit of one of his classmates, Adam.

Historia
Eden Wing has been living in his brother’s shadow for years. Even though he’s a top student at his academy in Ross City, Antarctica, and a brilliant inventor, most people know him only as Daniel Wing’s little brother. A decade ago, Daniel was known as Day, the boy from the streets who led a revolution that saved the Republic of America. But Day is no longer the same young man who was once a national hero. These days he’d rather hide out from the world and leave his past behind. All that matters to him now is keeping Eden safe.
