Genealogy

fascinates me! My dad’s side of the family is mapped back to a 12th Century German Crusader, and my mom’s side leads to royalty in 1st Century Saxony. (I know, everyone says they have royal blood—mine happens to be very diluted.)

While the long trail of names and dates is impressive, I’m more interested in the stories of my ancestors' lives. But daily details are rarely recorded. And that’s where my love of historical fiction comes in. I might not know specifically what it was like for my many-greats-grandmother Penelope who sailed to New Amsterdam in 1640, but a great listen can help me explore the possibilities. Maybe that’s my springtime listening goal—when the snow melts, I’ll choose a story, visit a related historic site, and let the listen help me travel through time. When is the next ferry to Ellis Island?
