My summer jobs

were always the same as my school year jobs—babysitting and pet sitting—so in some ways the summer felt like an extension of the school year, but with less homework. While my friends were operating rides at a theme park, frying up mounds of tater tots, or behind the register at the family business, I hung out with kids and animals. Honestly, it’s not a bad way to spend a summer!

This year’s summer plans would merge just fine with the plans I had when I was 16. I’ll visit family so I can hang with my nieces and nephews. There will be dozens of evenings and weekends at outdoor concerts. I’ll see most of the massive summer movies. Maybe my dog will get over his aversion to water and join his friends in the lake at Prospect Park’s doggy beach. And with any luck, I’ll make a dent in my TBLT (To Be Listened To) list!

By the way, with the change of seasons comes a change in jobs for your humble editor. I’m passing the reins of the Now in YA newsletter to my colleague Katie, but feel free to reach out on Twitter (@aunt_feather) if you ever want to suggest books—or find out what’s been catching my ear!
