For when you're feeling like prey...
My therapist once pointed out that one reason I adore rabbits and other small animals so much is that I intuitively relate to their constant state of wariness and vulnerability. Hearing that was an epiphany; it marks the point in my life where I stopped beating myself up for being sensitive and started wearing it as a badge of honor. The Highly Sensitive Person by Elaine N. Aron is one of the listens my therapist recommended for further learning on the subject, and it remains my favorite source for understanding and handling sensitive people. I often return to it whenever I need to remind myself that being hypersensitive comes with a host of positives along with the negatives, like heightened empathy—and the ability to enjoy a good beer even more than most others! (In moderation, of course.)
