Guys,

I love Halloween. I’ve often joked with my husband that we should send out Halloween cards instead of holiday cards and demand that acquaintances start wishing us happy holidays in October instead of November.

I wasn’t always so in touch with my spooky side—in fact, if you can believe it, I used to dread Halloween. After I outgrew trick-or-treating as a kid, teenaged me felt too self-conscious to dress up (minus one best group costume winning turn as Thing from the Addam’s Family), and the holiday just quickly lost its magic. I was a quiet introvert—and it felt like a celebration of unabashed extroversion. But as I grew older, I started to rediscover what truly appealed to me—quiet ghost stories told in the dark, the eerie whisper of the wind through autumn leaves, dissections (pun VERY intended) of the macabre and strange facets of humanity. And just like that, I found my own quiet way of celebrating the season.

So consider this my Halloween card from me to you—wishing you and yours a spooky, chilling, and all-around weird season.
