Frequently asked questions
Why introduce a new royalty model?
To meet the evolving needs of authors, publishers, and audiobook lovers we've been rolling out a new royalty model that prioritizes equity, flexibility, and insights for creators. This model evolved out of ongoing conversations with authors and publishers, and that advances our creator-centric ethos by:
- Distributing listener membership revenue among all engaged titles
- Enabling creators to earn across all membership listening activity
- Opening new monetization opportunities through our All You Can Listen catalog
- Expanding discovery potential to grow the overall audiobook audience
Do I need to enroll in the new royalty model?
At this time, the new royalty model is only available to publishers and authors who have been invited to participate. We’re continuing to gather data and feedback from early participants and will be expanding access to additional creators on a rolling basis. If you’re interested, please reach out to earlyaccess@acx.com or directly to your Audible contact.
Does the new model impact non-participating creators?
No. The new royalty model does not impact royalty earnings of creators.
How does Audible choose books for the Plus Catalog?
We curate the Plus Catalog to balance discovery of content while maximizing creator earnings. Titles considered for inclusion are subject to Audible editorial review to help ensure the best experience for our listeners and creators. There are several types of content we suggest clearing for Plus Catalog distribution, including:
- Short-form content: Get more out of content with shorter runtimes like novellas or content for kids.
- First-in-a-series titles: Use the first title of a multi-title series strategically to introduce your stories to listeners.
- Backlist titles: Breathe new life into already published titles that have slowed in performance.
- Fresh new voices: Experiment with storylines that explore new or niche perspectives.
- Undermonetized content: Give titles with positive engagement metrics an even larger audience.
How does the new royalty model affect narrators?
When an author in a royalty share agreement has enrolled an existing title to the new model terms, a narrator/producer will receive a notification to approve the new royalty terms. A narrator/producer will need to approve the new terms for the royalty-share title to be enrolled in the new royalty model.
