Hi, guys,
As the managing editor of Audible’s genre newsletters, I’m always coaxing my fellow editors to dig deep and share tidbits from their personal lives. But as I was daydreaming about what to write here, all I could think about was work stuff, and then it hit me: do I have a single thing to say that’s not about my work hustle?? Am I a workaholic??!So, not at ALL desperate to prove something 🙄, here goes nothing! Last weekend I went to the Great Smokies for a wedding. I rode exactly two rollercoasters at Dollywood, did a moonshine tasting (which is a thing I guess?), and saw a cute lil bear digging in a dumpster. One morning I forced myself to run three miles of hills and sprints in the mountains. And I got my hands on an early copy of My Friend Anna, which is a memoir about the fake German heiress Anna Delvey and promises to be the summer’s most thrilling tell-all. Altogether, I’d say June is off to the perfect start.

We need to talk about Good Talk
It’s tempting to underestimate the audiobook versions of graphic novels, but that would be a huge mistake here. With Good Talk they're truly like apples and oranges. Told from the heart, this amazing memoir is the story of an Indian mom who tries to answer her six-year-old’s questions about his biracial identity, starting with (what else??) his Michael Jackson obsession. The full cast really made this one for me. Author Mira Jacob is joined by two of my all-time favorite narrators—Vikas Adam and Kivlighan de Montebello—as well as a full cast of supporting actors. It. Is. INCREDIBLE. This is one of 2019’s best, folks!

With his trademark wit, humor, and radical compassion, Tan shares his journey and the lessons he’s learned along the way about being a successful businessman, a devoted spouse, and self-acceptance. From navigating the gay community; to finding the love of his life; to creating a popular ladies’ clothing lines for Kingdom & State and Rachel Parcell, Inc.; to joining Antoni Porowski, Karamo Brown, Bobby Berk, and Jonathan Van Ness on Queer Eye as positive, representative celebrity role models for LGBTQ people; Tan followed his own path to develop his signature style and embrace life.

Tan France is just the coolest
I admire Tan France’s unwavering devotion to the French Tuck in his role as Queer Eye’s fashion expert, and consider him a hero for being one of the first and only openly gay Muslim men on TV. His new memoir is finally here (hooray!) and, to celebrate, we rounded up some of our favorite memoirs by Muslim authors.

Historia
A third-generation Jehovah's Witness, Amber Scorah had devoted her life to sounding God's warning of impending Armageddon. She volunteered to take the message to China, where the preaching she did was illegal and could result in her expulsion or worse. Here, she had some distance from her community for the first time. Immersion in a foreign language and culture - and a whole new way of thinking - turned her world upside down, and eventually led her to lose all that she had been sure was true.
