Hello spring—

but what is a fan of the dark side to do when faced with months of balmier days ahead? Just surrender to all those chirping birds and blooming flowers? Maybe my secret goth side is showing, but even when the skies are sunny I seem to seek out morbid storylines, twisted psyches, and deadly whodunits. But it’s OK because this week I’m among my people! The Death Becomes Us festival has just landed in New York, giving us murder-obsessed weirdos a place to congregate and talk about the sprawling landscape of the genre, from the serious to the silly. I’m especially excited for the appearances of some of my favorite true crime audiobook stars: Paul Holes, Damien Echols, and Billy Jensen (more on him after this!).

And after the party’s over—well, we’ve still got April showers and that whole cruelest month thing to look forward to, right? (Though as an April baby myself, I personally think T.S. Eliot was being a bit unfair.) Here’s what I can’t stop buzzing about for spring.
