I've donned a few

book-inspired costumes in my life (I loved being Alice in Wonderland!), so I fully support schools that challenge students to create literary costumes for Book Character Parades at Halloween. While they might complain that they can't dress like a star from the Kids' Choice Awards, I love discovering just how kids see themselves in books. Of course, I've also thought about what I'd choose if I were invited to a join a book parade today. After considering the fun of Pigeon or Matilda, I decided that Harriet M. Welsch is the costume for me. Dressing as Harriet the Spy would be comfortable (sneakers and a hoodie), practical (flashlight and a notepad are required accessories), and I would even be able to bring a snack—I do love a tomato sandwich!
