MEMOIR

These stories of lives colorfully lived moved us most.

Performed by Lulu Miller

One singular question consumes Lulu Miller's memoir: how do you make sense out of the senseless? It's a particularly apt question for 2020, and there's a sort of poetry to the fact that it came out in April, when the world seemed at its most unhinged. Why Fish Don't Exist tells the story of David Starr Jones, a natural scientist who was obsessed with bringing order to the natural world. But at the core of the story is Miller herself, who is fighting her own heartache. As the Audible editors came to it one by one, we were each mesmerized by the warmth and character of Miller's voice as she swept us up into a world of love and natural science.
