"I'm regularly inspired by the inimitable George Guidall, Barbara Rosenblat, and Katherine Kellgren, for the sheer range of their interpretations. Early inspirations were from radio—Peter Sellars being foremost. Also, Peter Jones and Simon Jones in the original Hitchiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, and more recently Simon Russell Beale reading De Profundis, and Ian McDiarmid reading Paradise Lost (C'mon, Emperor Palpatine as Satan!). My favorite narrator is Juliet Stevenson, best known here for the movie Truly, Madly, Deeply. Of books narrated, I’d recommend Sweet Tooth, by Ian McEwan. She brilliantly embodies its complex heroine, and deftly weaves McEwan’s serpentine plot to its jaw-dropping conclusion. Acclaimed for reading classic British literature, Stevenson is a delight to listen and learn from."—Tim Gerard Reynolds
