Patricia Campbell's life has never felt smaller. Her ambitious husband is too busy to give her a goodbye kiss in the morning, her kids have their own lives, her senile mother-in-law needs constant care, and she's always a step behind on thank-you notes and her endless list of chores. The one thing she has to look forward to is her book club, a close-knit group of Charleston women united by their love of true crime and paperback fiction. At these meetings they're as likely to talk about the Manson family as they are marriage, motherhood, and neighborhood gossip.

"The narrator did an amazing job!"
"What a beautiful story. The narrator was flawless. She did such a fabulous job distinguishing the voices of each character. I often find the way female narrators mimic male voices annoying, but not in this time. I would highly recommend this audiobook...As for the story, it was beautifully written. I understand the plight of plantation slaves in a whole new light. The author makes it easy to get a better understanding of the culture of both the black slaves and the white owners while weaving a heartfelt story of how love is without race or prejudice. I could not get enough of this book and listened to it every chance I had."
