Natalie Harnett

Back to Full List of Authors

Columbia MFA graduate and Edward Albee Fellow, Natalie Harnett, grew up in Queens, NY, and currently lives on Long Island with her family. She spent most of her childhood vacations visiting her grandfather’s home in the Wayne County region of Pennsylvania, and while researching that area she learned of the devastating coal mine fire that took place in the nearby city of Carbondale. The Hollow Ground, her debut novel, tells the story not only of that fire but of one family’s struggle to survive.

Some of Our Favorites

Surprisingly contemporary

There is so much rich description of a now-vanished but still relevant world, that the listener walks away more educated (while also a little romanced).

Simply brilliant

This listen will make you change the way you think about everything.

Think Steve Jobs was a tough boss?

Lisa Brennan-Jobs' gorgeous memoir gave me goosebumps as she described what it’s like to love and seek approval from one of the world’s most notoriously withholding personalities.

Historical fiction at its best

I wish I could write something as genius as this story. It’s a long one, and it’s a deep dive, but it is so masterfully crafted and engrossing that it goes by a lot quicker than you’d think.
