Yongsoo Park is the author of the novels BOY GENIUS and LAS CUCARACHAS, both published by Akashic Books. He is also the author of THE ART OF EATING BITTER: A HAUFRAU DAD'S JOURNEY WITH KIDS, a non-fiction book of essays about his children, his parents, and being a father, as well as RATED R BOY, a memoir about growing up Korean in 1980s Queens. He grew up in Elmhurst, an immigrant enclave in Queens. Much of his writing is about his childhood in a NYC that's long gone. He is a Luddite, who lives without a cellphone and gets around NYC mostly on a bicycle. He strives to give his children as much of an analog childhood as possible. He lives on a busy street in Central Harlem and used to keep an old Mercedes sedan that he jerry-rigged to run on recycled waste vegetable oil that he'd get from the Crown Fried Chicken restaurant on the corner of his street. Read more about that adventure in THE ART OF EATING BITTER. A former Van Lier Fellow at the Asian American Writers' Workshop, he received his M.F.A. in Creative Writing from the Old School.
