“Some people run from their demons; others sit down and have cocktails with theirs.” William R. Hincy is a man who does and writes about the latter. Having become a writer after deciding it was the only sensible thing for a problem drinker to do, Hincy aspires to use literature to connect society on an emotional level through characters who no longer create messes but have instead become the mess. Widely published, Hincy’s work seeks to disrupt the notions that great writing is inaccessible and that there is only a market for stock plots, reboots and generic formulas. He now lives outside of Los Angeles with his wife and kids, having found solace in the notion that the only things sacred are self and spiced rum. William R. Hincy’s work has been featured by many of America’s best short fiction publishers, including Short Story America, Watershed, the Avalon Literary Review, Ellipsis, Oracle, Passages North, and Black Mountain Press. His book Without Expiration was named one of the Best Books of 2020 by Kirkus Reviews and won the 2021 American Fiction Award for anthologies. He has also been named a finalist for the 2020 Eric Hoffer Award and two International Book Awards (2021).
