Wayne Labat

Wayne Labat

Wayne was born and raised in New Orleans, La. He discovered both photography and theater arts in High School, and was a 1993 graduate of both Benjamin Franklin High School and the New Orleans Center for the Creative Arts Theater program. He was also a martial artist, competitive fencer and JV soccer goalkeeper.

After graduation he enlisted in the Navy as a Nuclear Electronics Technician and learned to run nuclear reactors. This scared enough people that the Navy decided to send him to UCLA on a Naval ROTC scholarship. While at UCLA he continued to experiment with photography, worked as a Community Service Officer and Dispatcher for the UCPD, worked as an EMT, and was a performing Taiko Drummer. He graduated in 1999 with a BS in Japanese and became a Naval Officer.

Somehow, despite deployments and traveling the world on various ships of the fleet, he managed to become an Ironman triathlete and also picked up a love of Circus Arts in addition to earning a Masters' in Social Science from the Maxwell School at Syracuse University, New York.

Clearly a renaissance man who is as comfortable driving a 100,000 ton warship as swinging from a flying trapeze trying to catch a somersault, or breathing fire on six foot stilts, Wayne is still going stong.

His love of photography and his passion for circus arts combined and led to a lot of experience shooting performances and shows all over the Southern California area. As a fairly new father, it occurred to him that maybe some other parents could benefit from his knowledge and learn to take better pictures of their children, so he decided to write a book.

When not sailing the seven seas, Wayne lives with his family in Southern California and occasionally finds time to teach circus arts classes and take as many pictures as he can.
