WALLY DUFF, an ENT physician (“professional nosepicker”) & life-long storyteller, began writing the HAMLIN PARK IRREGULARS, A NOVEL series of mysteries/thrillers in 2002 at his son’s (James E. Duff) encouragement. To date there are five books in the series, which follows fired investigative journalist & current full-time mom Tina Thomas (inspired by Duff’s real-life daughter, Tina Duff Taylor) & an ever-expanding group of fellow parents and assorted friends dubbed by one character as the HAMLIN PARK IRREGULARS. These quirky, everyday folks balance the consistency & occasional tedium of families & work with the thrill of high-risk situations requiring derring-do as they chase front-page-worthy stories to help Tina reignite her career. Hoping for a reader response of “Wow, I didn't see that coming,” Duff gets story ideas from numerous sources, including medical experiences (like stints during the Vietnam War & at Dallas’s Parkland Hospital where JFK was taken after being shot), patients (many in law enforcement), & friends/family. He is inspired by authors such as Elmore Leonard, Carl Hiaasen, Robert Parker, Michael Connelly, & fellow physicians Tess Gerritsen, Michael Palmer, & Robin Cook. A birthday party magician, exercise nut, & avid golfer, Duff lives in Nebraska with his wife, Mindy, & their Bichon Frise, Bentley.
