Vanessa Fortenberry

Vanessa Fortenberry

A music teacher turned teacher-librarian and reading teacher; Vanessa Fortenberry, award winning author, writes inspirational stories (fiction and non fiction) for children and adults. Inspired by her grandson's curiosity about wanting to see God, Vanessa wrote the children's verse story, "Mama, I Want to See God." This story echoes the ways in which young readers inquisitively want to know if they can see God and if they look like Him. This book was also a finalist in the 2016 Best Book Awards.

"Daddy, I Want to Know God," the second book of the series, Families Growing in Faith, is a 2019 "Award-Winner in the Children's 4-8 Year) category of the Christian Indie Award. In addition, in 2018, this book was awarded the Children's Religious" category of the American Fiction Awards. In this rhyming verse-story, a child's probing questions of his dad shows a burning desire to connect with God personally and to learn more about God.

Vanessa enjoys writing her quarterly e-newsletter, "Connecting Readers to the Word," in which her readers get a glimpse of her "Speak Life" words of inspiration, "Quick Picks" recommendations of books for children and adults, and "Vanessa's Bulletin Board" of announcements. Vanessa's "Children's Bookroom" blog introduces literacy issues children encounter and recommends books to inspire and motivate children to read despite any obstacles.

Vanessa also contributed to the book, "Relief Notes: Encouraging Letters for Tough Times" written by The Christian Authors Guild. This book offer messages of encouragement and inspiration during times of hardships.
