Trevor Bentley grew up in Auckland, New Zealand and was educated at Tamaki College and Auckland and Waikato Universities. He has a special interest in teaching, researching and writing about nineteenth century Pakeha (European) captives and culture-crossers. Dr Bentley is the author of the acclaimed texts Pakeha-Maori and Captured By Maori. He divides his time between work, writing, surfing and travel. He lives in Tauranga, Bay of Plenty, with his wife Helen.
