Tony (Anthony Geoffrey) Harmsworth (1948-) He has spent forty-six years living on the side of Loch Ness with extensive views of the loch. He set up the Loch Ness Centre in 1980 and, in 2010, wrote the definitive LOCH NESS, NESSIE & ME . His other non-fiction titles are SCOTLAND'S BLOODY HISTORY and RADUCANU'S FAIRY TALE IN NEW YORK. Today he writes science fiction - His bestsellers are THE VISITOR and THE DOOR, which are standalone novels. His best known series is EDGE OF THE VOID, which follows astronaut Mark Nobel. The series includes MOONWALK (a free prequel) MOONSCAPE, TRAPPIST-1, REPLICA PARADOX, DARK LOGIC, and HUBRIS EFFECT. Tony's most controversial series is the FEDERATION TRILOGY, which comprises FEDERATION, FEDERATION & EARTH and HIDDEN FEDERATION. It casts an interesting slant on AI and first contact. Readers love it or hate it. Another book which began life as a standalone novel, is MINDSLIP, but it is shortly to be republished as part of a new series called THE MINDSLIP UNIVERSE. It includes SUPERNOVA (the original MINDSLIP), SCORCHED EARTH (originally HEAT), and, due for launch in the spring, the latest KEPLER'S CHILDREN. Biography: In 2014, aged 66, Tony retired from a successful career in tourism, but is still considered to be one of the foremost authorities on the mystery at Loch Ness. He began writing his science fiction based on ideas he'd had for decades. Then began a five year battle to interest a publisher or agent without success. Most didn't even respond. Frustrated, he discovered the Self Publishing Formula course and self published. Within two months he had two Kindle UK Bestsellers and has not looked back since with fourteen SF novels now on Amazon. In 2025, after eleven years of trying, he managed to interest Vinci Books Ltd who are in the process of republishing all of his science fiction with new covers and in a number of languages. This will hopefully be completed by the end of 2026. Although born and brought up in England, he is descended from King Robert the Bruce. His mixed heritage has resulted in him being a rather strange combination of Tottenham Hotspur and Scotland supporter. Neither team seem to ever win anything! Although, perhaps, this year? As this last sentence demonstrates, he is also a great optimist! Tony has a background in sales and industry holding down management posts with Loyds, Top Rank, Granada, Wella and Lenthéric Morny (BAC). These posts were in Manchester and the south of England. He moved to Drumnadrochit in 1978 to follow up several years' interest in Loch Ness. He went on to have a very successful career designing visitor centres, exhibitions, guided tours and multi-media presentations. He now writes science fiction full time and if the reviews are to be believed, he is very good at it. His style is similar to that of John Wyndham and Arthur C Clarke, but some reviewers say his work is also similar to Asimov, Heinlein and Bradbury too.
