Howdy, I'm Tim Carter, a former full-time hands-on custom builder and remodeler. I'm also the founder of the syndicated newspaper column Ask the Builder and the award-winning website, AsktheBuilder.com. My passion is home building, remodeling and home repairs. I'm also very passionate about my wife, my kids and my friends. I'm a master carpenter, master plumber, master roof cutter and love installing ceramic tile, marble and granite. As crazy as this sounds, I also love to install wallpaper. I find that very therapeutic. About seventeen years ago a close friend of mine, Fuzzy, passed away very suddenly. He was the president of the top poured concrete foundation company in Cincinnati, OH when I was building. Fuzzy knew more about poured concrete foundations probably than all the other foundation people in Cincinnati combined. Moments after I got the phone call about Fuzzy's passing, I started crying. Not only was I sad that I'd not see him again, but I was mourning the loss of all of the knowledge in his head. He'd never taken the time to write down one thing. All of us in the building trades would have to re-invent the wheel. We'd have to grope around trying to figure out what he knew. That day I vowed I would not let that happen to me. I wanted to pass on my building knowledge to my kids and to you so that you wouldn't have to guess. You wouldn't have to experiment. I wanted you to Do it Right, Not Over.
