Tiffany E. McDorman, born in Detroit in 1986, obtained a doctorate in Linguistics and Didactics of English for Foreigners at The University of Michigan (Ann Arbor) where she also lectured in the courses of Glottology and Linguistics applied to Pedagogy. She perfected her training in what is called The Audio-Lingual method (Army Method or New Key) which is a method used in teaching foreign languages. It is based on behaviorist theory, which postulates that certain traits of living things, and in this case humans, could be trained through a system of reinforcement. In her book "Learn Arabic! For Kids" Tiffany combines several methods to learn and start speaking languages considered difficult (like Arabic), without the use of grammar books. One of these methods is the Total Physical Response (by the American psychologist J. Asher in the 1970s) according to which most of the interactions that children have with their parents combine verbal and physical aspects. Children physically respond to parental language and parents reinforce children's responses through new language. Another important aspect of teaching she focuses on is repetition, using the innovative method called Bacward Buildup. Linked to this book, Tiffany has published a pleasant book called "Arabic Stories For Kids" with which she aims to teach young readers at least 400 new words in classical Arabic, enough to have simple conversations. The strength of Tiffany's books lies in encouraging parents themselves to teach their children their own native language, thus allowing them to spend time together having fun. The pubblication of the audio version of these books is ongoing.
