Tammy Haurilick's extraordinary adventure began amidst West Germany's military scene. In a major shift of events, she dropped out of college to join the Navy, embarking on an epic 22-year journey of service and discovery. Tammy's military career was an incredible journey that began in the Philippines as a Diesel mechanic on the USS Samuel Gompers AD-37 and ended as a prison guard in Camp Bucca, Iraq. She retired in 2012 and transitioned to a role with the Veterans Administration, where she found deep satisfaction in helping veterans. Tammy's diverse interests range from watercolor painting, sketching, and typographical design to subversive cross-stitch and crochet. Her bucket list reveals her thirst for more adventures, including walking on the Great Wall of China and sleeping in a Yurt on a Mongolian plain. While stationed in Iraq, her creative career took an unexpected turn. Tammy got the idea for "12 Days of Crazy: Holiday Stories and Kitchen Adventures” after being inspired by the varied cultural backgrounds of her fellow service members. Celebrating Christmas in a bunker during a mortar attack on the camp sparked conversations about holiday traditions, planting the seed for her book. Amid sandstorms and downtime in guard shacks, Tammy diligently penned her collection of stories, recipes, and cultural insights. Tammy's artistic background, along with her newfound love of writing, led to her writing a book that incorporates her various life experiences. With notebooks filled with ideas and snippets, she continues to create and share her unique perspective on the world. Tammy's journey from painting murals on Naval Reserve Center walls to writing a book of memories and recipes in a foreign land is a testament to her enduring spirit of creativity and curiosity.
