I am Shane Alexander; I am a serial entrepreneur, I have owned and operated over seven different businesses in last 20 years. I have been in the electronic cigarette industry since 2010.
I have started a great e-cig wholesale company which I sold recently(for a good profit). But as a user, as a wholesaler and still as a retailer, I have seen all sides of this industry. I also made four trips to China (Shenzhen province) to meet and visit e-cigarette factories and seen first hand how they are produced. I can honestly tell you not all e-cigarettes are created equal, some are simply better built than others. As the market is full of clone and fake products, we all have to be careful not to fall into the traps of buying fake products while paying higher prices.
I get often asked about the growth of this industry; my reply has always been the same, that it is still a much safer alternative than smoking regular cigarettes. Based on my own personal experience after smoking real cigarettes for more than 25 years and now smoking e cig for last seven years, it is a much better alternative for sure.
When I first started smoking e- cigarettes, I got so drawn to it, that I started doing a lot of research on it and I spend easily over $2,000 in first year to buy as many varieties as I could, so I can test and see what's good and what was not. That is when I wrote my very first book "Electronic Cigarettes - My Research, Findings, and Switch, What's Good & What's Not" That became a best seller pretty much in just three weeks after publishing.
Next, I got interested in finding out how to make e- liquid as I got scared vaping Chinese e-liquids when I found out most of those e-liquids contains a chemical call diethylene glycol something that is commonly found in Antifreeze products. I was truly shocked. I again did a lot of research to learn how to make e-liquid at home, and after about $1,500 and four months later I was successful in doing so. I started making different flavors, and it almost became a passion of mine. I shared all those findings and many e-juice recipes in my two e-liquid books.
By this time I also started to do retail and wholesaling of the e-cigarette products and accessories in 3 different states. I also started to make trips to Shenzhen, China the capital of e-cigarettes industry. There are over thousand small and large e-cigarette manufacturers in that province of China. The first trip was truly an eye opening one. I visited three mid to large size companies and was treated like royalty. The free samples I received all those three companies filled up a whole suitcase. But the issue was language; hardly anyone can speak or understand English.
After my second trip to China, I helped a friend open a state of the art vape shop in Florida, and I also documented the whole process and released it as my 4th book "ultimate guide to e-Cigarette Retail Business." The e-cigarette market has been growing at a rate around 300% from year to year. It is expected to grow even more, and by the end of 2017, it is expected to reach around 3 billion dollars. Yet the business is still in its infancy. There is incredible potential for expansion, especially right now. Those same market professionals also believe that the market will continue to expand, with e-cigs outselling traditional cigarettes by 2047.
Since writing that book, I have sold my retail and wholesale businesses, and I only do direct import now. I love this side of the business as it is less stress, less hassle and gives me the freedom to go anywhere I want.
As of 2015 and on, the new trend in the e-cigarette business has moved towards heavy duty vaping or as I call it the Cloud vaping. I am sure most of you have seen someone using e-cigarettes and the smoke they are producing is like a thick white cloud, I am sure you wonder what kind of device can produce such thick vapor, and if that can truly satisfy your craving. Well, the short answer is yes it really can. It can be much more enjoyable then burning a cigarette or any regular tobacco product.
The fifth book I wrote was on this topic of Cloud vaping where I explained all the previous generations of e-cigarettes and talked about how this industry has evolved so fast in so little time. In that book, I showed what devices are the new trends and what people are buying now.
